Learn to Play the Suling! SOLD OUT
Friday, June 26, 2020 | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm MDT | Register by June 19
In this small and intimate online class with Suzanne, you will learn to play this sweet bamboo flute from Indonesia. It is an easy-to-learn beautiful bamboo fipple flute. With only four finger holes, the flute plays in the gorgeous West Javanese pentatonic scale (Sunda) and plays over two octaves! The fingerings are very simple and the tone is easy to create. It’s a sweet yet powerful little flute! I have these sulings custom made in Bali by a master flute maker. I have them made to a 440 pitch so that they can be played with western instruments (hard to find this!). They are sturdy and very well made. Professional quality, not a tourist’s flute.
Listen to this flute here. This is our recording “Suling” from our album “Miles Beyond”. Watch a video describing class here.
Class is limited to 6 people. This is a special class offering for the Solstice Flute school that wasn't able to meet this year. There won't be another class for a long time!!
Cost: $125 (includes your own SULING flute/shipping and ONLINE class); $45 if you have your own small Suling flute.
Native American style flute, world flutes, silver flutes, composition/recording guidance (and Gilbert for recording, mixing, mastering, etc.). Contact Suzanne with questions and lesson requests. 'I'm here for you!'

Perfecting Those High & Odd Notes on Your Native American Flute
Friday, June 26, 2020 | 5:00 - 6:30 pm MDT (6:00 - 7:30 pm CDT)
Many flute players avoid certain notes because they are frustrated by how hard they are to consistently achieve and make sound beautiful. Two areas specifically are the notes in the second register and the half-hole on the bottom hole of the flute. I’ll show you how to get these notes more regularly and even a few tunes that you can play to increase your accuracy. Knowing that those notes in the second register aren’t always in the same place from flute to flute, I’ll provide you with a helpful tool that identifies exactly where these notes are! By avoiding these notes, you are limiting your creativity and possibilities within your flute(s). After this workshop, you’ll have a better understanding of how you can confidently play those high and odd notes with ease and accuracy! Note: There will be a short segment towards the end of the workshop for a brief Q&A.

Achieving Complex Combinations | Advanced Techniques for the Native American Flute
Saturday, June 27, 2020 | 10:00 - 11:30 am MDT (11:00 am - 12:30 pm CDT)
Embellishments are created from three distinct areas; the tongue, the breath and the fingers. Once you have a handle on some basic technical work and embellishments, it’s time to kick it up a notch! Learn how combining the technical work of these three areas make your flute playing sound more distinctive, robust and polished. We'll cover how to combine fluttering, bending, barking, rapid tonguing and rhythmic playing together in various combinations. Note: There will be a short segment towards the end of the workshop for a brief Q&A.
If you haven’t already signed up for my 4-day embellishment walk-through, it’s a good idea to do that in advance of this workshop! Sign up for free here: http://bit.ly/jl-4day-emb
