We recommend you register early and in advance; on-site registration will be available only if a workshop has not filled.

Workshop payment and refund policy:  Workshops are a ticketless event; your secure, online payment will ensure your space. Your email receipt is confirmation of your payment and registration in the workshop(s). Payment for Festival workshops is nonrefundable with the exception of workshop cancellation. If you are unable to attend, you may gift your space to another; your workshop payment will be applied as a charitable donation to support the Solstice Flute School & Festival if you or your proxy do not attend (you will be sent an email for tax purposes).

About the facilitator: Fabian Fontenelle is Zuni/Omaha. He was born in Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico but he also has family in Nebraska. Fabian is the great, great Grandson of the famed Chief Big Elk of the Omaha people. With powerful dance performances intertwined with traditional storytelling, Fabian depicts a profound imagery of a “Spirit World” pronouncing the spoken word of his ancestors in his fluent Native Zuni Language. Join this free teaching class for the Anasazi Pueblo Flute. Do you have trouble producing a clean sound, have questions about how to play certain sounds, or just love the ethereal sound of the Anasazi flute and want to listen? Joe will play, show you techniques and help answer your questions. Come learn from a master player!

What to bring:  An Anasazi/Pueblo or rim-blown flute, preferred. If you don’t have one, there will be Flutes available to use.
​
About the facilitator: Joe Udis Moreno was influenced by his Grandfather on his mother’s side who used to make flutes from reed and cane for the Native Yaki and Tewa. His Grandfather played a rim blown type flute from the side of his mouth using his tongue. Joe always wanted to figure out how he played that flute, so later in his 50’s he began making his own flutes and fell in love with the Anasazi. Joe will also be performing on the Festival Stage.
Beginner Native American Flute Class

Class size: 15 students max; sign up on site.

Curious about learning to play the Native American style flute? Interested in a fun, low-pressure exploration into the spirit, joy and healing quality of the flute? Then this class is for you! Your instructor will provide an introduction to the flute, proper technique, and provide an encouraging space for guided practice.

What to bring:  Flutes are available to use; no need to read music!
