Join us for a hands-on workshop where participants will learn how to create a ceramic ocarina using traditional Terra Cotta clay. This session offers a practical introduction to the process of shaping clay into a fully functional instrument, guided by experienced instruction and cultural knowledge.

Participants will learn directly from Nash Tavewa, a ceramic instrument maker and Indigenous artist who has spent many years crafting and teaching traditional instruments. This workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn foundational techniques and gain insight into the artistry and care involved in making Indigenous clay instruments.

During the workshop, students will:
  • Learn the basics of working with Terra Cotta clay
  • Shape and construct their own ceramic ocarina
  • Understand how sound is formed within a clay instrument
  • Create a fully functional instrument by hand with guided instruction
  • All materials are included

This workshop is designed for individuals interested in hands-on learning, traditional craftsmanship, and the process of creating a functional musical instrument from natural materials.

Note: Because there will not be a kiln onsite, complete instruments will need time to dry and be fired separately, after the workshop. Once firing is complete, each finished ocarina will be carefully shipped to its maker. Cost of shipping is included in the workshop price.

Important: Do not sign up for the Healing Stitches workshop if you sign up for this workshop due to time conflicts.
