Masterpiece Recording Session

with Suzanne Teng & Gilbert Levy

How long does it last: 2 hours

Min Students: 1
Max Students: 6

Suzanne and Gilbert will work with you to create, prepare, arrange and record your own masterpiece! Suzanne will help you flesh out a musical idea from hearing you play just a few notes or from preconceived musical ideas. She’ll serve as music producer as she helps clarify the vision of the piece, helping you to develop the idea, create a structure, and guide you through the entire recording process.

Gilbert, an award-winning engineer, will have you sounding better than you’ve ever heard yourself. He will also perform and record a selection of drums, percussion, stringed instruments, hand-pan, and synthesizer pads to accompany your flute part.  During this session, you will become a recording artist/composer, learning about mic technique, overdubs, song development/arranging, and mixing techniques.

You will witness the blossoming of your musical idea into a completed composition, and leave with a fully produced and professionally recorded masterpiece!

Cost includes two-hour recording session plus one-hour post production mixing session, all supporting musical performances by Gilbert and Suzanne, and MP3, MP4 and WAV files emailed to you within a week following Flute Camp (or during Flute Camp if you schedule your session early in the week).

For $85/hour extra, a more complex masterpiece can have multiple overdubs, fine-tuned mixing for commercial-ready release, tuning of pitches, additional accompaniment, all done in post-production after camp. Sign up for this option at camp after you discuss your masterpiece ideas with Suzanne.

Sacred Drum Making Ceremony

Birth Your Drum • Discover Your Rhythm • Step Into a Healing Journey

Since 1996, Drumheart has been honored to witness profound healing through the teachings of the sacred drum. Guided by Elders and spiritual teachers, this workshop supports participants as they experience the powerful transformation that can occur when a drum is birthed.

During our time together, you will learn about:

  • Making and caring for your drum

  • The sacred responsibility of being a drum keeper

  • The healing power of the drum

  • Journeying to meet the Spirits at the origin of your drum, guided by the hide and wood we include in the ceremony.

Building a drum is a deeply personal and centering experience that invites you to see the world from a new perspective. Many find this journey transformational — connecting them to their inner rhythm and a deeper understanding of self.

No experience is necessary — only a willingness to listen, create, and be open to the journey.

Ceramic Bass Ocarina Making

with Nash Tevewa

How long does it last: 6 hrs over 3 days

Min. Students:  5
Max Students:  10

Join us for a hands-on workshop where participants will learn how to create a ceramic ocarina using traditional Terra Cotta clay. This session offers a practical introduction to the process of shaping clay into a fully functional instrument, guided by experienced instruction and cultural knowledge.

Participants will learn directly from Nash Tavewa, a ceramic instrument maker and Indigenous artist who has spent many years crafting and teaching traditional instruments. This workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn foundational techniques and gain insight into the artistry and care involved in making Indigenous clay instruments.

During the workshop, students will:
  • Learn the basics of working with Terra Cotta clay
  • Shape and construct their own ceramic ocarina
  • Understand how sound is formed within a clay instrument
  • Create a fully functional instrument by hand with guided instruction
  • All materials are included

This workshop is designed for individuals interested in hands-on learning, traditional craftsmanship, and the process of creating a functional musical instrument from natural materials.

Note: Because there will not be a kiln onsite, complete instruments will need time to dry and be fired separately, after the workshop. Once firing is complete, each finished ocarina will be carefully shipped to its maker. Cost of shipping is included in the workshop price.
